Nordic Music

Alyssa is writing a book on Swedish & Finnish folk music and folklore.

Estimated availability: Fall 2024.

Stayed tuned for updates.

Alyssa studies and performs Nordic folk music and its applications to string pedagogy. She plays Swedish nyckelharpa, Finnish 5-string kantele, and Norwegian hardingfele in addition to playing Nordic music on violin from Swedish, Finland, Denmark, and Norway.

Her Fulbright project centered on Finnish folk music, including archaic music and pelimanni fiddler music. She attended courses and ensembles at Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland at the masters level, and immersed herself in Finnish folk music. She encountered many Finnish kanteles, jouhikko, a Finnish Esseharpa, and lots of Runolaulu. Her project is published on this page for the use of educators and musicians everywhere.

Alyssa teaches nyckelharpa, Nordic fiddle, and kantele lessons. Contact her at alyssa.rodriguez.music (at) gmail.com for info.
