A GUIDE TO THE FOLK MUSIC HISTORY OF FINLAND & NEW CONCEPTS IN FOLK MUSIC IMPROVISATION FROM SIBELIUS ACADEMY

Alyssa studies Nordic folk music and its applications to string pedagogy. She plays Swedish nyckelharpa, Finnish 5-string kantele, and Norwegian hardingfele. Her Fulbright project centers on Finnish folk music, including archaic music and pelimanni fiddler music. She attended courses and ensembles at Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland, and immersed herself in Finnish folk music. She has encountered many Finnish kanteles, Finnish Esseharpa, jouhikko, and lots of Runolaulu. Her project is published above for the use of educators and musicians everywhere.
